You will quickly start to feel the need for some storage solutions once you start building a home gym. As you accumulate more equipment, this need becomes obvious. But, commercial storage solutions are very expensive. And if you buy it too early, you will outgrow it quickly. In this article, I will show cheap and simple storage solutions. They are especially suitable as temporary solutions while your home gym grows and changes.
35€ Home Gym Multi Storage
Our second home gym was in our spare bedroom. It was just shy of 12m2 and I was still finishing up my medical doctor degree. So, I had to be creative in order to save space and money. Hence, I went to a local hardware store and bought a standard corner storage rack for 35€ (see picture below).

Most hardware stores sell something similar to this. Store your equipment evenly on the shelves. In that case, most manufacturers list the carrying capacity per shelf at 150-200 kilos.
40€ Weight Plate Storage
You have two options. Take the really simple route and use a bike rail like the one in the picture to the left. You could also spend some extra funds and customize it a bit more to your needs as done in the picture to the right.

20€ Pulley Attachment Storage
Not much to say. A piece of chain and some carabiners. Ultra simple and cheap.

60€ Fractional Plate storage
If you have fractional plates, you are probably often pondering on how to store them. In comes Hooked Sports with this 60€ dollar rack or wall mounted fractional plate storage. They also sell a version with 2 pins for 45€. I own these myself, and they make me happy every time I reach for my fractional plates.

I currently do not know of other companies in Europe that sell these. But if you live in North America, Stray Dog Strength in Ohio sells them. They also offer tons of other useful attachments.
5€ Storage Hooks
Standard storage hooks from your local hardware store are great for storing miscellaneous items. They are cheap, come in all sizes and can often by bought with foam padding. I use them to store my preacher curl attachment (that I never use).

Bonus: In the picture above, you can barely see how I use magnetic carabiners. They help store wrist wraps and other small items on my rack.
Free Dumbbell Storage
I almost never throw out leftover wood. For my old spare-bedroom-home gym, I needed a space efficient way to store a set of adjustable dumbbells. I also needed room for two sets of hexagon dumbbells. So, I built this dumbbell rack “for free” (see picture below) from an old IKEA bed. I have since given it to a friend.
Pro tip: Black multi-purpose spray paint is a great tool. It is an easy way to hide imperfections in your home gym DIY items.
