Are you looking for that first rack for your home gym? One that doesn’t break the bank but can still last for decades? Consider the SQMIZE SQ7 Power Rack Line. They’re budget-friendly, extremely modular, and plenty durable. I’ve owned my SQMIZE SQ7 since 2020. And I have failed 180+ kg squats on the safety straps on more than one occasion. So, after five years of heavy regular use, it’s time for a full review.
Is it the best rack ever? No.
Is it one of the best starter 4-post racks you can buy in Europe? Absolutely.
Specs
- Rack type: 4- or 6-post power rack
- Upright dimensions: 50 x 50 mm
- Height options: 197 or 213 cm
- Width: 131 cm
- Cable system compatibility: Yes
- Finish: Powder-coated steel with painted numbers
- Weight capacity: 350 kg
- Price: Starts at 470 Euros
Functionality
The SQ7’s greatest strength is its modularity. You can start of your rack for only 470 Euros. But, despite this low starting price, you get access to a huge ecosystem of attachments that has grown continuously since 2020. You get all the classic attachments and then some:
Strap safeties, flip down safeties, bar holders, a pulley system, wall ball targets, lever arms, roller j-cups, dip bar, sandwich j-cups, monkey bars, punching bag hanger and even monolift arms. And most of these attachments are fairly cheap.
That said, there are some pills you have to swallow. 1) You only get holes on the front and back of the uprights, limiting mounting flexibility. 2) The painted numbers above the holes you use most often will scratch of over time. 3) The general finish is just okay. So, don’t expect Rogue-level welds or coating.
Build Quality
This rack is function over form. It doesn’t pretend to be premium. Instead, it focuses on maximum durability, functionality and expansion potential at the best price point. But, if you want premium, SQMIZE has several premium rack lines as well.
However, don’t doubt that this rack can take a beating. I was originally recommended the SQ7 by a powerlifter squatting >200 kg. I have personally worked out in this rack 2-4 times a week for almost 5 years. And I have never had anything break on me. I always feel secure in the cage.
I’ve even failed >180 kg squats and had to drop the weight on my strap safeties a few times. Yet, the rack shows no signs of permanent damage. Initially, I actually worried that strap safeties could release from the rack when dropping weight on them. Due to the fairly short pin that secures them to the rack. But, that has never happened to me. That level of reliability in this price bracket is impressive.
Attachments
I’ve owned and tested several of the available attachments over the years. Similar to the rack itself, they adhere to function over form. Here are my thoughts:
- Strap safeties: Rock solid. Although I’d love an option for removing and adding it quickly to the rack (with a linchpin for example).
- Flip-down safeties: Reliable. But would benefit from cross-drilled holes to increase usability.
- Bar holders: Versatile. Holds both a 30 mm and a 50 mm bar. Even better would be a version where you could choose the diameter of the two cylinders yourself (2 x 50 mm, 2 x 30 mm or a mix).
- Pulley System: They don’t sell the version I have anymore. The trolley was a square piece of metal with a plastic liner running over a chromed upright. The new version looks much better than the one I have. The loading pins are 30 mm but you can buy 50 mm adapters separately. Remember! They sell two versions. One for each of the available rack heights.
- Standard J-cups: For only 5 Euros more you should just buy the sandwich J-cups instead.
- Half rack / six post extension: Great way to add a lot of plate storage to the back of the rack. HOWEVER! This attachment is not compatible with their own pulley attachment due to the design of the included crossmember. It took me 2 minutes to draw a crossmember that would work. I then had a local blacksmith make my design for around 200 Euros. I still can’t understand why SQMIZE has not fixed this. I have even shared my design with them several times through social media.

Price and Value
When I bought mine in 2020, it costed ~100 euros less than it does today. But that’s true for almost all gym equipment these days. Even with the increase, it remains one of the best value-for-money modular racks in Europe.
Here’s a comparison of similar racks currently available as of june 2025:
| Brand & Model | Price (Approx.) | Upright Size | Modularity | Notable Features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SQMIZE SQ7 | ~€470 excl. shipping | 50x50x2 mm | High | Comes standard with a set of j-cups, strap safeties, monkey bars and pull-up bar |
| Mirafit M3 Power Rack | ~€400 excl. shipping | 60x60x3 mm | High | Westside spacing, only available in UK |
| Strength Shop MPR60 | ~€680 excl. shipping | 60×60 mm | Medium | No pulley system available |
| REP PR-1100 | ~€310 excl. shipping | 50×50 mm | Low | Has a pulley system available |
| Atletica R5-Base | ~€398 excl. shipping | 50×50 mm | Low to Medium | Entry-level rack. |
| Powertec Rack | ~€749 excl. shipping | Unknown | Medium | Has a great pulley system sold separately |
The Mirafit M3 is a great competitor. However, it is not available in mainland Europe. The racks above that are cheaper than the SQ7 all have less modularity or come with pin safeties as standard. So, I would say that the SQ7 is still pretty well priced.
Conclusion
If you’re starting your home gym journey and want a rack that can grow with you — without draining your bank account — the SQMIZE SQ7 is a rock-solid choice.
It’s not flashy. It’s not perfect. But it’s functional, solid, affordable, upgradable and comes with several attachments as standard. And another important factor. SQMIZE actually seems to continuously update the attachments for the SQ7 (just not the half rack attachment). Many other companies don’t give their budget line much as much care and attention.
I have labeled this as a great beginner rack several times. But the truth is that for many lifters, this could be a forever rack. The only reason I’m thinking of upgrading mine is to get a built-in selectorized cable system. Otherwise, I’d be happy with it for another five years.
