MightyRock Review – A Foldable Bench with a 500 kg Load Capacity!

When I first got the MightyRock bench from MightyLu, I thought it would be a nice solution for people with micro home gym setups. It also seemed suitable for summer house setup. My initial plan was to take it to the family cabin after testing – but after I got it, I was so impressed that it has earned a spot in my main home gym instead.

Functionality

Compact and easy to store
The standout feature is the folding design. When collapsed, the bench is only 9.7 cm thick. This makes it incredibly easy to slide under a bed, sofa, or mount on the wall. The built-in bracket is a clever detail for wall storage, and the optional wall hook for your wall is available for 21 euros.

Stable despite being foldable
I was expecting some play from a foldable bench. But it is minimal. You’ll notice a slight give when you first sit down on it. This is because the locking pins need to be slightly smaller than the holes they go into. But once you are sitting on the bench, it does not budge at all – even under heavy barbell bench presses. Side-to-side stability is also better than I expected given the narrow footprint. Hence, I have had no problems with side-to-side stability.

Stable and secure in use. Also at higher weights than shown here.

Something to be improved
The narrow feet give you a lot of space for foot placement, almost like lifting on a tripod-style bench. However, the feet are capped with hard plastic instead of rubber. The bench won’t move during heavy pressing. But during setup (packing shoulder blades before taking the bar of the rack) or during single-arm rows (without legs on the bench), I noticed the bench would have a tendency to slide. I believe rubber capped feet would solve this.

Build Quality

Heavy-duty steel
The legs are built from 5 mm thick steel, which explains the impressive 500 kg weight rating. I didn’t expect a foldable bench in this price range to feel this solid in hand. I actually didn’t know how the thick the steel on the legs was before I got it in hand. And I was impressed! So, I immediately put it to the test by loading the bench with 460 kg without any problems.

It can handle more weight than 99% of us will ever put on it.

Magnetic pins
The pins for locking in the legs are magnetic, so they won’t slip out accidentally. It is just a little nice detail that makes sure that you won’t be dropping those pins every time you carry the bench around. These magnetic pins also save you the hassle of using traditional pop pins or screw-in pins. So, you can fold and unfold this bench very fast.

My initial thoughts after the first few weeks of using it.

Vinyl and padding
The vinyl is decent. It is grippy enough to keep you in place during pressing without being overly slick. Of course, it’s not on the same level as high-end PU upholstery like on my ATX MBX 660, but for the price point it’s more than good enough. The padding is on the thin side, which is exactly how I prefer it. And despite this, I feel comfortable lying on it.

Price

For the money, it’s hard to beat this bench. At around 175 € for a bench assembled in Europe, the MightyRock bench is extremely competitively priced. Rogue does make a foldable bench with a similar weight rating, but it’s nearly three times the price and it is 19 cm thick when folded. ATX has an adjustable foldable model, but it has weight rating of only 200 kg and it costs 270 €.

Amazon has several budget foldable benches like WINNOW, but most of them have very low weight ratings, making them unsuitable for many lifters. Finer Form is the only other budget brand that I’ve seen that offers a 500 kg weight rating. And it is actually slightly cheaper than the MightyRock. Yet, its design looks less slim and the steel appears thinner from the pictures. However, I haven’t tested it myself.

Conclusion

The MightyRock Foldable Weight Bench genuinely surprised me. It combines compact storage, thoughtful design, and a huge 500 kg weight capacity at a really competitive price. For the majority of home gym owners, I think it makes traditional flat benches unnecessary. To some degree, I already think that adjustable benches have made traditional flat benches outdated for home gyms.

So, you should really consider this bench if: 1) you don’t want an adjustable bench 2) you want an extra flat bench without sacrificing space 3) you are very limited on space. The only real downside is the hard plastic feet. I’d much prefer rubber capped feet for better grip on the floor. But even so, it’s not a deal breaker.
